Evidently, there is/was a broken rail (I heard) west of Mineola this morning, causing some backups (1010wins reports 15-20 delays). I flipped the scanner on for the ride into work, and Nassau tower was keeping quite busy. Plenty of train orders being handed up, from what I heard.

I find it rather amusing that it happens on the first Gridlock Alert day, when the advice is to take mass transit, which then runs into delays.

LOL you're fight on! It has happened here in the Boston area a lot, with infrequent Red Line train breakdowns. (SIDE NOTE: The LIRR M1s are just as old as our MBTA Silverbirds, also build 1969/70).

Maybe it was an M1 involved, or something else, since any equipment can die out at any age too, but I'm sure it wasn't an M7.
