Everyone: RAILFAN (and RAILROAD) magazine did an good overview of Chicago's commuter railroads at the time-May 1978 by Jim Panza. The cover photo ia a shot of then-new F40 101-The City of Joliet. The article is on pages 40-46. The writer explains the status at that time of each commuter operation and explains the then-new RTA's relationship with each. Also included is a a map showing the Chicago area at 5:30pm positions as of 1/78 and a list and names of the first 28 F40s - #s 100-127. We all know that the RTA was the predecessor to METRA-RTA ended the 70s with a renaissance of transit-especially rail in Chicagoland. This is good historical information also. There are some late 70s vintage photos also. I found it in archives of R&R we have filed here at NRHS National. MACTRAXX
