I was on the LIRR this past weekend. This trip, for the first (I ride the LIRR a few time a year) At the beging of the some of the trips, there was an anouncement "The split is 5 and 5" or "The split is 2,3,3 and 2" Does this have to do with how the Conductors work the train, or something else?
Thanks
Josh

Yes.

The Split is the conductor's delegation of collecting the fares. 5 and 5 would be 5 cars each. Weekday rushour would have more like a 5,3,and 4 (someone usually gets more).
