Maybe this will explain it better. The LIRR actually does own the land thats located to the north of the present Sunnyside yard, and that is known as yard A, which was at some point used to store freight cars. Most of it was gutted out, and rumor has it that it will eventually become a yard for trains operating into GCT once the east side access is completed. At present, it is not in use, and only a few tracks exist where NY&A stores some freight cars as well as it's diesels. What you read on that site might simply imply that the LIRR passes adjacent to Sunnyside yard, which is actually Harold interlocking. The yard itself hosts only Amtrak and NJ Transit trains. The person that you are in contact with is either pulling your leg or absolutely is need to find out who their employer is. It just might be Amtrak. Just to add more to it, Sunnyside yard is not third rail equipped. There are leads that have third rail to allow Amtrak's P32DM's to sitch from Electric to diesel (vice versa) but they all end short of the yard itself. So how are the LIRR MU's suppose to enter Sunnyside yard if there is no third rail?

Okay, Len.

Since you seem so determined to believe, let me suggest a few options...

If you want to send a private message with this employee's name, I'll check to see if she really is employed by the LIRR or even in the Railroad Retirement system which would mean employed by any railroad.

If you're far too protective to do that (I see to took down your true love's fine photo), ask for some more pictures. What you want is family pictures, head shots, that sort of stuff. That should tell you if she's real or just a cutie whose pic has been snatched off the "Net.

If you haven't spoken on the phone by now, she's a guy. If you have, and her voice appears femaile she's probably not the gal in the pic but some fat chick.

That's how it's played on the Internet...

I pulled the picture for the reason someone told her about it , and she told me she would report me to AOL cat. So I pulled the picture.

I have another friend that says she works for Amtrak on the NEC her name is Liz, she told me that LIRR just built a new shop at Sunnyside yard Building-C is this true?

Len.
Ps this girl Cathy isn`t talking to me now , she thinks I`m nuts. For having this question forum. I`m not from the area and I like to know if I`m talking to someone real.

Len,

What don't you understand about the word "NO". No, she's not real and no, the LIRR has no new building in Sunnyside Yard. And no, Cathy, Liz, la-Quanda or whomever she is this week doent work for the LIRR.

Now since the gal with multiple names isn't talking to you anymore, please put her picture back up so I can let my friends see it,.

Dear Valley:

While I have to admit your posting and the replies you've gathered have livened up the board, I have to agree with the other posters (especially ones like me who work for are retired from the LIRR) that you just are not listening or don't want to see the truth.

If there is any "new" building in SUNNYSIDE yard it belongs to Amtrak or NJ transit. There is "NO" LIRR usage of Sunnyside. ADJACENT to Sunnyside is the new Arch Street shops which IN THE FUTURE will be the LIRR MofE shops for the new Grand Central yard (which has not been built yet). As of RIGHT NOW the yard is called YARD A and is being leased to the New York and Atlantic RR which deals in ONLY freight. And as others have noted there are only a few tracks left. And as stated before the Interlocking that sends our trains into the tunnels into Penn Station runs ALONG SIDE Sunnyside yard

Way back on page one I suggested that maybe she works in the nearby Long Island City Psgr. Yard which is 90 % diesel (and we don't have a shop there) and is a WALKING DISTANCE from Sunnyside. And please trust me on that as until I've been off sick I was the Yardmaster there. But other posters are probably closer to the truth (that is, if she does indeed work for the LIRR) and that she might work at either HillSIDE (a major repair facility) just east of Jamaica or at WestSIDE where there is a repair shop off 12th Avenue in Manhattan.

Dave: Why don't you send him some links so he can understand the geography of all this.

Hey Clem, The picture is back up .
It`s not I don`t beleave you all, It`s just I have other people emailing me, telling me other.
I just want to find out how come theses girls can`t tell the truth, is it that hard?

Len.

Len,

The reason these girls can't tell the truth is because they are either guys pretending to be girls, very old big married women or young heffers who send pictures of cuties they get off porn sites on the Internet.

Except for this Forum, of course, truth is scarce on the Internet.

Find a nice laundromat or bowling alley and meet women there. At least you can see what they look like and you dont have a long distance phone bill.

And . . . there are always church groups. Keeps you away from the "one-night-stands" and resulting STDs.

Here are some links with maps from my friend Steve Lynch's website. Please check them out to get a relationship of what's what:

I'm a Yardmaster in LIC for the LIRR, "Sunnyside" Yard is in yet another quirk, very CLOSE to the neighborhood of Sunnyside in Queens, but most people consider it closer to Astoria or Long Island City. It is a big yard. My grandfather used to work for the old Railway express which was also very close.

I worked for the LIRR during the summers of 1972, 73 and 74 while enrolled in SUNY @ Stony Brook.

I was at first an extra ticket clerk then a Special Service Attendendant on the parlor and bar cars.

Read some of my anecdotes:

http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirrphotos/ ... rvices.htm

Also, please visit my website, link of which is below.

My father worked for the LIRR in the late 1920s, early 1930s. One of the things he did was to wire the elevated Union Hall Street station in Jamaica for electricity when it was elevated wih the Jamaica Improvement East Project in 1930.

Two of my uncles worked for the LIRR during that time frame as well. One was in freight service. Another relative worked as a "grease monkey" at Morris Park Shops.

I worked in West Side Yard Shop until 2 weeks ago. Now I'm in Hillside Car Shop. Your inevitable question is did I ever see "Cathy" in either of those places. The answer is no. :(

What used to be the REA building in Sunnyside was freakin' immense. Anyone know of what used to be there? Looks like one or two floor warehouse built over a nice sized yard. Anyone? TIA...
