Hello, I am a 34 year old firefighter and I'm looking to possible change my career to the railroad service. I am 80% done with my AA degree in fire since. My question is what do I have to do to get into the railroad service? I'm looking at a class III line.

It never hurts to put in an application. The worst thing that can happen is you never hear about it, and the best thing is you get a job offer. You have until the job offer to decide on the career change.

Most railroads provide all the training required. They also provide any equipment or tools required for the job. Generally the pay and benefits are good, although the schedule can be a bit crazy. Coming from fire fighting, I would expect you to be at least familiar with a crazy schedule though!

I say you should at least apply and see where that takes you.
