Hopefully the $5 fee will be enough of a penalty to get EVERYONE to purchase tickets in advance. $2 is too low. People can budget that. If it is a penalty fare it needs to be a penalty. (If speeding tickets were $10 more people would speed ... having speeding tickets be $100-$300 is a deterrent.)

As for the weekend pass cost, I like the idea of having them be $5 per day - but would offer them for $7 for the weekend if purchased in advance or at a machine/agent. It would be nice to see how these passes are actually used ... what percentage are purchased and used on one day only and what percentage get two day usage.

BTW: On a monthly, is that as many trips as you want to make within the zones covered or is there a limit?

There is no limit for monthly passes, its unlimited travel between the zones. Typical user probably uses it 20 round trips a month.
