Brightline gives green light to Cocoa stop for its Orlando-to-Miami passenger rail service

Next stop: Cocoa.

That's the word from passenger rail company Brightline, which on Tuesday said it plans to have a Brevard County train stop at what's known as "the Cocoa curve," on land it owns in north Cocoa, although it hasn't yet said when construction of a station would begin.
...
The Cocoa City Council at a workshop last week unanimously voted to commit $5 million in city money for a Brightline station project at that site, which helped trigger Brightline's commitment to have the train stop there.
...
Katie Mitzner, director of public affairs for Brightline, said the rail company "is ready to begin the formal process with Space Coast stakeholders to fulfill our vision for a Brevard County station. The Space Coast TPO, Brevard County, city of Cocoa and other community leaders have started to bring the region together to identify potential federal, state and local resources for a station to be located in Cocoa. We agree the time is now to finalize a plan."

The Cocoa curve location makes sense for the company. In addition to owning the land, the area is where Brightline trains must slow down, as they switch from an west-to-east configuration between Orlando and Cocoa, to a north-to-south configuration from Cocoa to Miami.

So Brightline is getting $20M subsidy for a Cocoa station and $45M for a Stuart station? Wow.

I hope the Cocoa station isn't a plain vanilla design :-D

Everyone getting off there gets a free strawberry shake! (Or smoothie, for the healthy folks.)

But seriously, I think this will be huge for the cruise travelers, especially those who fly in 1 or 2 days ahead in case of complications. "Train to Cocoa and then a cab to your hotel" is a lot easier than trying to get Mears (etc.) to take you to Hotel X in their shared van.

So Martin and Brevard are "done deals"!!

Now how about Vero Beach for Indian River and Jensen Beach for St. Lucie.
