A group of preservationists with the endorsement of the Boston and Maine Railroad Historical Society and the Danbury Railway Museum in Danbury, Connecticut are making a last-minute effort to save former B&M SW-1 #1127 from the torch and bring the locomotive to the Danbury, back home to New England. The locomotive is in prime cosmetic shape with an operating 567AC prime mover. The locomotive retains the as-built EMD controls and cab, is still equipped with #6 brake, and is up to date on its blue card and air brake.

Kicking off the fundraiser with $28,000 towards the $50,000 purchase price, over half the necessary funds are already raised. The 1127 will be transported home via rail by placing a set of roller bearing trucks obtained for the project under the locomotive. Upon the installation of the trucks, and alignment control blocks if required which have also been obtained, the 1127 can be moved as a standard piece of equipment. The 1127 can be saved. The plan is solid - it requires only the finances to make it happen.

A late model SW-1 built in 1954, the 1127 was the only SW-1 equipped with MU by the Concord Shops and later in life became synonymous with New England branch line railroading. A thorough history written by Rick Kfoury can be found in the below fundraising link.

The 1127 is scheduled to meet the torch Monday, January 22nd and only with your help can this be prevented. To donate, please visit the below attached link. The endorsement of the B&MRRHS can be found in the attached file.

Looks like they'll hit $50k by the end of the night.

Edit: indeed they have, just after 7pm.
