They are slower on the low end as a result of the computer based loading as nomis stated, but after about 40mph they are pretty fast for the most part.

They’ve always been known as slow to load, even before the emissions standards.. A lot of guys say GE stands for “Going Eventually.” The main difference with a P42 vs an EMD is the turbo on a P42 is exhaust driven vs an EMD being mechanically driven, so the GEs are more prone to turbo lag but as stated once they go, they go and I will add that they don’t want to stop.
