Metro-North will operate a weekday schedule on all lines on St. Patrick's Day, Friday, March 17, 2023.This happened last year as well; what's special about Poughkeepsie and Beacon for St. Patrick's Day? Is there just a huge crowd of people trying to get on the train without tickets?
If you are traveling from Poughkeepsie or Beacon in the morning, your ticket will be collected at the station prior to boarding your train.

So...why only Poughkeepsie/Beacon? What about Croton-Harmon, Tarrytown, and the many busy stations on other lines?
TRAIN(geek) APPROACHING, PLEASE REMAIN BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE
Obviously those stations are particular headaches that require gate collection.
