I noticed this spur coming off the Rochester subdivision (Ex NYC mainline) and was wondering why it was there. It is located just south of the sleepy hollow lake campground near Crittenden NY. I attached screenshots to show where the spur was and what the area looks like now. Any information about this spur is appreciated!

I looked up Sleepy Hollow Lake, Town of Akron, NY. Akron was at one time a big gypsum producer. Maybe it had something to do with the gypsum industry.

This is speculation. The body of water the spur goes to may be a former quarry. Gypsum? Ballast? Any indication when it was removed?

Looking at old maps of the area there was water there in the mid 40's at the earliest, the spur stopped appearing around that time too. Earlier maps show no water or mine/cory, there is nothing there at all. It's just a spur to... nothing. The earliest arial map is from 1959 and it shows no disturbance in the area.
