BERLIN — Bombardier (TSX:BBD.B) has landed a contract worth US$143.7 million in the United Kingdom to supply new motors and control equipment for trains running on the Central Line of the London Underground.
The seven-year contract, announced on Friday will also see the rail division of the Montreal-based multinational provide maintenance support.
The new equipment will be manufactured at a Bombardier Transport factory in Västeras, Switzerland.
The contract awarded to Bombardier is part of a modernization program aimed at improving the efficiency of the Central Line of London’s subway system. Public transit management in the British capital hopes to reduce the number of service disruptions on the line by 14 per cent.
