Your first year, if you get right into conductor's class and get your 80 percent, you're looking at 48-50K to work in the yard. If you can hold the road in your hub, you'll make 60K or more. BNSF advertises an average of 72.5K a year for conductors, but I'm sure that's at 100 percent.

Railaddict,

You don't have to worry about staying home for days if you
hire out at Chicago.

They are so busy you will be working everyday if you want.

You should make at least $45-$50,000 your first year.

UPRR, yes starting out is 75% of full pay then after a person gets
qualified they go to 80% then each year after you will get a 5%
raise.

Isn't that nice, we now have a foamer selling "how to get a job on the railroad" at $40.00 a pop. Just what we needed. Please peddle your satire elsewhere. The majority of those who come here to seek info. on getting on board are given fair and comprehensive information from those of us working in the field, without someone trying to peddle information.

Sorry you feel that way. In regards to being a foamer nothing
could be further from the truth.

I'm a conductor and put a great deal of work into writing that report
in order to help those who want to get a railroad job.

I spent over $400.00 on advertising in the month of April for
my website plus hosting fee's.

Should I absorb all that cost and just give the report away for free?

I'm a Conductor not some rich foamer who can afford to give
valuable information away at a considerable loss.

However if you pay for the advertising every month for the website
I would be happy to give the report away for free.

Is that agreeable to you?

Since your so quick to judge I figure you would be willing to
do that to help everyone else get "into the industry."

Also I never told anyone to go to my site or advertise it.
I simply tried to help people with some of their questions
and signed my name along with my website which is
standard operating procedure for forums.

Thanks for all the info. After cosidering the salary I make now , 6 weeks vacation and home at 4 pm everyday, weekends and hoildays It makes my decision easier. I've always wanted to work on the railroad ,but as someone posted earlier , in your thirties it is alot easier than in your late 40's or 50's.
