"Maybe tomorrow's Q627 will finally leave it at Dewitt?"

Only if the conductor isn't taking a nap when they get there...

From thw NYSW forum:

"Here's the interesting thing...Q366 does work in Dewitt and both Q626 & Q627 do crew changes at Dewitt..
There is absolutely no excuse why that engine has not been set off at Dewitt!!"

Are we keeping score here? So far all the trains that 3810 has been on make stops at Dewitt... Maybe CSX has a couple of other trains that stop at Dewitt that they want to try. Once 3810 has been on any and all combinations of trains then it will get interchanged. ;-)

Could be as simple as CSX gets to use the engine for a while in lieu of paying for the transport on it. Who knows. CSX owns about two fifths of the engine anyways, give or take, through their partial ownership of NYS&W.

To the first comment...no..NYSW is paying freight. Quite a hefty amount for the unit to jackwagon around on a CSX tour.

The second comment..completely wrong...how can CSX own 2/5 of a long term lease? GATX owns the SD60s.

BTW, does anyone have any evidence of CSX ownership??

If at first you don't succeed department...

Just maybe, maybe... 3810 will make it to Dewitt today. Found the following posted on another forum:

The engine should be set off in Syracuse today, Friday, May 18.
It is currently on Q62118 at Rome, NY at 0700.
It should have been set off on Tuesday 5/15 at 0600.

It passed Syracuse THREE times already ping ponging back and forth on CSXT as follows:

Q36614 to Selkirk
Q62715 to Buffalo
Q62616 to Selkirk (end quote)

CSX is environmentally reckless. Just thinking of the excess fuel burned while needlessly dragging around this extra weight is nauseating.

they could be testing it

Unless the unit is on-line..in which case there is nothing environmentally reckless, no excess fuel being burned, no needless dragging, and nothing nauseating at all.
(except for the delay in getting it to NYSW)
I dont think its been confirmed if its on-line or not..
you might want to wait for the full story before you nauseate yourself. Image

It was on line and looked good going west, I guess they are running it to Buffalo or something so when it gets to Wilard, OH they will send it to Huntington to go north to NJ! I love the CSX route planning.

actually, it has been confirmed as being on-line..
so, no need for nausea.

Report posted on the NYSW forum at around 7:30ish this pm places 3810 at the Dewitt engine house. Another post on the same forum adds this:

"The plan is to bring NYSW SD60 #3810 south on Sunday's SU-100, it may depart on Saturday but it usually outlaws by Preble or points north so it would primarily be seen on Sunday

It should be dead in tow, there is also strong internal reports that this unit will be trail only "

The post mentioned an unspecified problem that needed to be worked out as the reason for the reported trail only status.. No more info given than that. Don't know if Kingfish is free to comment on this or not.

Technically, the engine shouldn't have been online if it's being shipped at cost.
However, anything is possible...
The best way to prevent this kind of thing from happening is to ship them dead and drained... tagged unservicable... and with the batteries disconnected!
If an engine is full of water and has good batteries... you just never know what might happen!
I'm sure that Kingfish can advise whether the unit was D&D or not.

All ofthe units are being interchanged with batteries disconnected, no seats, no coolant, minimal fuel, no radio or HOT device to preclude easy use. CSX has been known to make dead in consist useable for "free" service.

3810 and the five remaining units will be moved to Binghamton dead and put into service from that location. Part of the contractual agreement calls for final acceptance there. GATX will have a representative on hand to ride it and oversee correcting any glitches that arise.

Cheers,

As part of the Conrail buyout, CSX and NS got together and loaned Water Rich the money to buy out Delaware Otsego’s stock, taking it from public to private hands.

http://www.nytimes.com/1997/08/12/busin ... -deal.html

As a result, Delaware Otsego, the parent company which owns the NYS&W, remains under control of CSX and NS:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delaware_O ... orporation
On October 3, 1997, DOCP Acquisition LLC announced it had completed the short-form merger of Delaware Otsego Corporation (NASDAQ:DOCP) with a wholly owned subsidiary via a stock tender offer of $22 per share.[3]
This deal essentially brought the DO System of Railroads, including the subsidiary New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway (NYS&W), under control of the much larger Norfolk Southern and CSX rail systems, because the new owner DOCP Acquisition LLC is owned 40% by Norfolk Southern, 40% by CSX and 20% by Walter G. Rich of the Delaware Otsego Corporation.[4]

Lots more links:

Therefore, CSX owns 40% of the railroad, and whether these new units are owned, leased, or whatever, they have a 40% interest in it. So if they use it for a week or two, so what?

My thoughts are, if CSX owned a controlling interest (greater than 50%), then using that power would be
good. Otherwise, I would find it inappropriate.
