Anybody know why they're doubling the length of the platform at Northport? Also, there was a stack of pre-made track sections on concrete ties next to the crossing at Larkfield Rd. just east of the station around the middle of the month. That stack is gone, now. Was track work done in the vicinity, recently? Thanks.

Northport has been a 12 car platform since at least the 80s, a relic of the upgrades for the proposed Port Jeff branch electrification. Platform rehab has been going on for some time now, one half has been finished. Not sure about the other half.

For several weekends in July and August there are weekend shutdowns for tie and track work.
