MMM, maybe with all of that extra money, they'll put the final nail in the coffin for West Trenton, the Somerset Freeway...

So that would make (2) planned freeways running through my little town.

Obama elected Newark Mayor Cory Booker to head a task force. Cory Booker elected Montclair Mayor Jerry Fried to head a subcommitte on transporation and infrastructure.

This can only be good for the Montclair line... :-D
Montclair Times

Mayor Jerry Fried has been tapped to chair a subcommittee on transportation and infrastructure that will advise President-elect Barack Obama on the transit needs of New Jersey municipalities.

Fried, who told The Times that Montclair is a "model of a transit-oriented community," will push for new federal funding for public transportation...

Yes. Mayor Fried is very, very pro mass transit. He has also been known to bike around town for council meetings and the like. Bike racks are appearing everywhere around town now. Not a "car" person at all, so having him as the transportation advisor for NJ is a great thing.

Nothing again for rail in south jersey shore areas,Cape may,Cumberland ,lower Gloucester and western Atlantic counties. We could get more more money for transit rail selling apples on a corner during the depression. All the Governors are from north jersey and dont know anything about the needs of the southeastern shore areas.

Well, what do you expect?? After all, most of Salem and Cumberland county is all farmland anyway!!!

Gloucester county would still be mostly farmland if it wasn't for people like Toll Brothers and Hovnanian destroying opens spaces in the area!!!

NJ should disband into two states and become North NJ and South NJ. It would help to stop bickerings about who gets more money. :P

Let me know when you guys figure out how to run trains on cranberries. :P :-D

The Somerset Freeway was dead before it was alive.

Well believe it or not a lot of people do live in farmlands and forests areas and we like to go to Philadelphia and to the shore all so(and like trains) with out driving and we also pay a lot of taxes.Just look at the list of railroad stations and improvements,90 percent in north jersey, yes you have most of the population (which im glad, its nice out here)but we have quite a bit of people also. Now no one expect to have as much service as the north but come on ,NO service in 4 counties and one ac line.Oh by the way cranberry juice is good for you city boys so drink up.

How many times can a rail line be studied? this study comes up year after year. if njt would stop wasting money on study after study then maybe by know the mom line would have been built and better mobility in the region. wth conect mom with winslow, even better

Unfortunately unless they intend to build the MOM line without any Federal funding all these studies are a prerequisite for consideration to receive Federal funding, there are two projects in recent history done in NJ without any Federal funding.

1.) River line
2.) Meadowlands Rail spur

The Meadowlands rail spur is being funded entirely by the Port Authority who heavily subsidizes many NJ rail initiatives such as the Multi-level cars, the Port Authority is also committing $3 Billion towards the new ARC tunnel.

The River line would have had a tough fight securing Federal funding, which is why the State funded on it's own. And we know how popular that was.

There is a mention of funding for rail infrastructure in the incoming Administration's program, but is one of so many initiatives it is not possible to predict how many dollars will go to rail.

Offsetting commuter rail expansion, is one initiative that would reduce the need for commuter rail:

Expand flexible work arrangements: Obama and Biden will create a program to inform businesses about the benefits of flexible work schedules; help businesses create flexible work opportunities; and increase federal incentives for telecommuting. Obama and Biden will also make the federal government a model employer in terms of adopting flexible work schedules and permitting employees to request flexible arrangements.

See the full program at: http://change.gov/agenda/economy_agenda/

Can someone explain how the ARC, Lackawanna Cutoff, and the Northern Branch(2 of which aren't needed) are still on the map yet the NERL is nowhere on the radar. Even West Trenton for Pete's sake is on the map.

One of which isn't needed. That one is a luxury, the shortest in length, and way overpriced.
