Topic for the discussion of various miniature ride on trains and live steam clubs/railroads in the state of New Jersey.

Having recently visited the Jersey Shore Live Steamers? (AKA The Tuckerton Railroad) Im intrigued by these small scale trains that they run. They even have locomotives that run on real steam and are coal fired.

Are there any other places in NJ like this besides the NJ Live Steamers? Or has there ever been any amusement park in the state that ran live steam previously?

Found one. Seen here is the old train ride that used to run at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson. They were scaled down 4-4-0s that ran on 24 inch gauge track. These burned propane to make steam.

What’s really interesting is that, according to this website, they wanted to work something out with the Pine Creek Railroad in Monmouth to have them operate the steam engines???

Can anyone tell me the story behind that?

Photo from a recent trip to the Jersey Shore Live Steamers. The building on the left is a 1/8 scale model of the old station that used to be in Whiting until the 1950s. The engine seems to be a replica of center cab diesels from the 1940s.

Some more photos of the Jersey Shore Live Steamers from a stopover I made on the way to Woodstown Central. Today this Plymouth was powering the trains. It seems to be scaled differently than their other trains.

Pictures taken in the storage area were taken with permission. Also notice the 1/8 scale replica Blue Comet car in the background of the second picture.Image
