M9 and M9A Procurement & Acceptance

The M-8 S trailer car has blind ends, no traction motors, has Air Brakes, HVAC systems, and seating.
Is placed between 2 Married pairs of M-8's.

Sorry, one more thing. Will the M9s be testing through Mineola next week? I might go out and get some video of them passing by. Last time, I was busy when they went east, and left too early to see them go west.

LIRR might have suspended the testing program for the holiday season, crews were needed for holiday extras.

Testing resumed the other day.

Any update on when we might see these in real service? Or is the current generation of commuters going to retire first?

Are you speaking of the M9 or the M9a?

Depending on which you are referring to, the answer could very well be what you suggested.

The plain old M9s, the ones they are testing that seems like going on forever.

LIRR seems determined to test all new cars very thoroughly nowadays. They did the same with the M-7's when they came in. They seem determined not to repeat the debacle that happened with the new M-1's in 1969. Back then huge numbers of the new cars were sidelined for many months with propulsion problems that were not detected during whatever minimal testing (if any) was done before the cars went into regular service.

Even if they did the acceptance plan , you can be assured the cars will not go in service till a decent amount has been accepted.
no use putting them in equipment cycle if there is no spare equipment.

its called keeping the M3s only as a reserve fleet.
