There is some interest in this topic. Here we go.

As of January, 1997:
M-1 numbers missing:

9073,074,233,234,243,244,327,328,379,380,587,588

Notes:
9073 renumbered to 9043 (no date)
9233 renumbered to 9625 5/1994
9328 renumbered to 9366 6/1994

Numbers retired before decommissioning program began 12/2002:

9048,054,058,073,074,101,119,177,178,188,193,194,
233,234,243,244,272,311,324,327,328,359,379,380
401,411,412,416,429,441,481,501,587,588,591,592,614,620
643,644,717,726

Edit: added 9324; deleted 9361/9362
9361/9362 was the first pair decommissioned under fleet replacement program.

What happened to some of these cars has been outlined in various posts. Most of them I have no clue what happened to them.

Fleet replacement M-1 decommissionings began 12/2002.

Note: I'm including 9401 and 9591 which are the Sandite/Alcohol cars E401 and E591. Although they do not officially show as retired, they certainly are not in revenue service, either.

That makes 42 cars off the original 770, for total of 728 cars to be decommissioned under the program.

Decommissioned in 2002 = 2 cars (9361/9362)
Decommissioned in 2003 = 162 cars
Decommissioned in 2004 = 120 cars
Decommissioned in 2005 YTD = 24 cars (up to Feb. 14)
_______________________________________________

Total decom up to Feb. 14. 2005 = 308 cars

728 - 308 = 420 cars left to decom.

There...Now we've got it right.

Tom,

As of today, how many M-1s have been decomissioned (since late 2003, like you said) due to delivery of the M-7s? Seems as if 2-3 sets go out per week.

I have a sheet here that says decommissionings actually began in 2002. I'll have to compare the stuff that I have. We'll get it right.

This sheet says:

2 cars in 2002
162 cars in 2003
120 cars in 2004

YTD 2005 I have at work. I have to remember to take it home.

That's right, as the first M-7s came on the property sometime in mid/late 2002 and the M-1s began to be phased out.

Please re-check original thread-creating post for updated information... Thanks.

Tom

P.S. And 126 of those 420 M-1s left are CCM overhaul cars. They will not be immediately decommissioned, as has been discussed in previous threads and posts.
