actually the HEP is about notch 6 or so as it restricts engine to 900 RPM to keep 60 Hz.
hence the downrating in HEP mode plus the loss of Kw to HEP trainlines

someone correct me if I am wrong! From what I have heard the screamers consume just as much fuel sitting in station in high idle with HEP on, as they would in notch 8?
I believe you are wrong. Without a load attached the engine uses less fuel to maintain a constant RPM.
AFAIK MPG isn't calculated for locomotives (I've never seen it mentioned, at any rate).
RDC's were advertised as getting 2-3mpg.

What's the RPM at run 8? (I thought 900rpm was close to max)
