I may ride for the Port Washington section if I have off that day. And I think John said they can't do the Belmont part because the schedule changed.

wasent somthing like this tried last year and was a total failur?

the best part is the traveling through hempstead at 1am, good luck with that! and the "5 min layover" even if the train is 'on-time' you might still miss your connection (remember, an LIRR train is considered to be on time it arrives at its destination within 5min 59seconds).

i never understood the fascination with riding the bus, the train i get, but the bus?? someone will have to explain that to me.

the only trip i plan on doing is taking the train from bayshore to montauk and then back, its supposed to be a nice ride.

Have fun on the "looser cruiser" LI Bus ;-)

LIB aint all that bad, but the buses are boring. It's all the same stuff that everyone else has, Orions, and the most popular type, the Orion V.

And I can sympathize with people not understanding the urge to ride buses. There are just so many types of buses. Riding a fishbowl was like riding the redbirds. They were rare and soon to be(well, they now are, sorta) extinct. It was a memorable and historic feeling.

Then there's riding a bus just to see what that bus is like. I've ridden MCI D series, G series, 9 series, and 12's. They've all been nice rides. Though I've got to admit, it's more about the look of the bus than the ride(except for when it comes to Prevost. I'm barely over 100lbs and I struggle with the Prevost H series seats! That's why I take LIRR over Hampton Jitney).

I know I'm dying to ride the new Setra, the S417. Not because I really expect the ride to be so increadibly different or life changing, but because I'm curious what the feel of that bus is like. It looks so luxurious on the outside, but does it hold its luxury on the inside?

It's really something that I wouldn't expect most people to understand. I will say this though. The one bus that truely is for the ride and not for the looks is a flex. Those things lean like the family sized rafts at Splish Splash, and that's a lot of leaning!

So.....yeah......back to rail

I used to like to ride the old Orion 5 diesel buses #500's- 656 but they retired last year so All of LI buses uses CNG. I used to ride the bus all day at and i would get a headache at the end of the day. Its not that exciting either the bus talks everytime it stops and that gets annoying after riding a couple of hours. The orion diesel buses didnt have that machine that talks thats why i liked it and they also had the old MTA logo and was called the MSBA instead MTA long Island Bus. Half of them retired in 2000 and the other half in 2004. I would rather ride the train instead of the bus, the only way i would ride the bus is if i had no choice.
here are the numbers of buses that the MTA has for Long Island

100 - 287 the first CNG Bus
288 - 395 the second reaturing horizontal windows
396 - 462 the most recent order from 2004

My friends, the name of this site is "Railroad Net", this forum the "Long
Island Rail Road".
We are supposed to be talking about the Long Island Rail Road and not
about buses on here.
I know we all drift occasionally, I do myself, but the discussion should be
about TRAINS.

I dissagree.

this is "RAILROAD.NET" and this IS the "LIRR FORUM" but if one gets off topic maby other ides can be shared, thre is plenty of topics here that have "derailed" in the past and have been "rerailed" on there own. read the inical post, and you will see waht lead to him posting about LIB. and LIB is and MTA agancy and DOES work closely with LIRR during bustitution, lets not be to nazi like and be hard core railroad and nothing but railroad. maby others on this bord besides you dont mind conversing about somthing else for a few posts then getting back on track. for many RRnet is thre only means of contact with these people. so have some respect here. we are very lucky that Mike and Joe don't run this like the MN forum and or just by pure dictator ship deleting off topic posts. these "derailments" can lead to intresting things while the "rerailing" is takeplace.

ALL WHO AGREE PLEASE TYPE AGREE IN YOU POST IN THEIS THREAD.

Turns out I wont be able to make the PW line portion of the trip. I have to work that morning and the train that they are taking back to NYC doesn't stop in Plandome, which is only a mile from where I work.

A slight change in plans. I won't be going to Jamaica. But I will get on at Patchogue and get off at Massapequa Park. I will be wearing a red cap (as usual) and dark blue shorts. I can't post this on the Transitspot forum because my account hasen't been activated (I registered two months ago).[/code]
