some nice equipment and modeling for sure, but it don't look like the eastport i remember.

there seems to be a severe lack of prototype LIRR layouts, other then a couple examples i can think of.

My model of Amityville that I built by myself from memory. Even added the grade level station for ambiance and a retro look.

Materials Used:

-Foam board
-Poster board
-Index cards
-Scotch tape
-Duct/Gorilla tape
-liquid/plastic cement/glue
-box cutter
-Balsa wood
-Pieces of layout that you buy at a hobby shop
-Thomas the Tank Engine train tracks
-24 M7 LIRR magnet cars bought at Grand Central (came in pairs)
-Sharpies/Pens/Pencils

Even though I changed the layout since the photo was taken (moved the grade to the other side, just like in real life), converted 8 of the cars into M1s with the blue pinstripe.

Any examples out there? I have this one from Nick Kalis; as I put together for him this entire section: http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirrmb/lirrmb.htm
The Lower Montauk Branch - Sept 1963

Nick's graphic layout design

Here's a few shots: Image
This a scratchbuilt float bridge whose prototype once operated in Long Island City on the East River. The second bridge had the word "Island" painted on it. There was no room on my layout to include the second float bridge so use your imagination.
Scratchbuilt by Tony Fabrizi.

I have to say, I love this stuff! The old LIRR is my favorite, 'cause it's my era. You guys are doing a fine job of preserving memories!

Nice setup! Reminds me of what I used to try to re-create when I was 5 or 6 years old with my own wooden trains. I used to try to make those LIRR and NYC-style transmission poles out of Legos haha. Had those LIRR and MNR M-7 wooden trains been around at that time I would have been over the moon.

Care to do a BRIO-type model of Jamaica station? :-D

I built an Elevator because I think it deserves one, and the transmission poles are made of gray plastic dowel rods with smaller ones cut and liquid cemented to the long pole.

There are reports that Walters will be releasing P-70 coaches in the near future in HO,
unknown if LIRR is part of this run for now.
Also MTH is cataloging P-70's in HO as well.

Still waiting for someone to release arch roof MP-54s. I have several Funaro-Camerlengo kits. You would think it would be fairly straightforward for ConCor since they already make the older style clerestory versions. I've tried bugging them about it, but they seem to ignore all emails and comments. Note: I tried twice to contact them about a possible issue with the sound decoder on the MP-54s and never got a response.

In the April RMC magazine, there is a great article about building an HO scale model of LIRR steam locomotive G5s #35 by Gary Butts.
This model won awards.

Has anyone here ever worked with Island Model Works? How are they as a company? How good are their models?
