LIRR GP38

Does anyone know how many GP 38's went to the NYA? Does LIRR still own any, or were they all leased to NYA? I have a picture of 3 or 4 Geeps in LIRR colors on the NYCH property. Dooes anyone know what happened to these units? I live near a scrap yard, and I remember they scrapped at least one Geep. This was in 1988-1989. Thanks!

4 gp38-2s went to NYA. 271/268/261/270
The rest of the geeps were rebuilt at Altoona and where sent out to be leasers. i think LLPX has them. LIRR Does not own any geeps anymore. im not sure if one was scrapped, ill leave that to others

it could have been a C420 (?)

very unlikely it was a geep. there routes are traced, and now all are LLPX excpt for NYA's(4)

The last group of eight Alco Century 420's was scrapped by Naporano in New Jersey in 1989-1990. They were painted in a similar blue and white livery to the GP38-2's. That's probably what you saw. The C420's were numbered 222-229.
