Gentle Forum Member,

There have been a few posts regarding the upcoming Riverhead Railroad Festival on this Forum. Following is a rundown of the weekend's events at the Railroad Museum of Long Island. The Event is also posted here on the "Events" page and more info is available at our website: www.rmli.org. I look forward to seeing many of our RR.Net family at the Festival.

RAILROAD MUSEUM OF LONG ISLAND, RIVERHEAD RAILROAD FESTIVAL 2005

Riverhead, NY. July 8, 2005. On Saturday, August 27th and Sunday the 28th, 2005, the Railroad Museum of Long Island is hosting its Sixth Annual Riverhead Railroad Festival. The festival will be celebrating the Fiftieth Anniversary of the End of Steam on Long Island Ceremony.

This year there will be lots of new displays and activities for all the members of the family. Each day will feature a ceremony honoring the End of Steam on Long Island complete with the Riverhead Fire Department Junior Band, local Boy Scout troops and local politicians. Along with this ceremony will be a special display telling the history of this event with historic photos from that days events. The Board of Trustees is hosting the First Annual Amateur Photography Exhibit and Contest. There will be a fine art exhibit of paintings featuring local artists whose interest in trains has inspired some beautiful paintings.

For kids 10 and under there will be a new craft activity; featuring a wide variety of crafts for kids to make and face painting. Of course, for kids of all ages, the miniature railroad trainset that was used at the LIRR Exhibit at the 1964-1965 World’s Fair will be running.

This year will also feature more scale model train layouts on display with their designers and builders to explain all about the art of modeling miniature trains. Some of the modeling scales will be O gauge, G scale and N gauge.

The 2005 Riverhead Railroad Festival is an event that the entire family will enjoy. The festival will have "interpretive actors and actresses" performing along with the tours. As always, there will be vendors selling train related items. And of course, we will have food and raffle prizes.

The Railroad Festival 2005 will be held at our Riverhead site at 416 Griffing Avenue, across from the Riverhead train station, from 10 AM to 4 PM each day. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 5 to 12, while children under 5 and RMLI members are free.
