The TT train ran from Stillwell Avenue to 36th Street in Brooklyn. According to this map, it made all stops along the way. What was the purpose of the TT train if the West End (the B train at the time) made all the same stops?

Simple, it wasn't making those stops at the same time. the TT only ran when the B didn't, Sundays and late nights.

At the time, the TA usually kept shuttle routes separate. the era that map is based on, the former BB sixth avenue local had just been merged with the T(AKA BMT3) with the opening of Chrystie Street, forming the B. the TT would not be relabeled to B Shuttle for another year.

Another example is the fate of the MJ. after the Myrtle el south of Broadway closed, the line was renamed SS and ran in a partnership with the M until 1973 when it became one with the M, operating when the M didn't (late nights and weekends). but for those few years, it was technically a separate service.
