I was coming back from my attempt to go to Staten Island today and took the CIP North to NSP, and on the Belmont Ext there was a nice long train of what looked like Gons. There was enough of them to rival the Stone train hualed by NYA. Also was a switcher and I am not sure if it was on the tracks or maybe on an access road ( I have never seen this area except from CIP so I am not suire whats there), but there was a crane and some other construction equipment there.

Anybody knows that that is all about? Are the ballasting in the area or something.

They can also be used for the concrete tie project on the Main Line between Jay and Harold. I saw them on 10/8/05 returning to Belmont.

I understand that the limited space in Holban Yard has forced the conductor on my former job, YFD 201, to use Belmont for storage of company material.
If you saw a switcher up there, it could have been either a work train or the YFD 201 doing whatever.
