I am planning a summer vacation that will involve flying into Denver, CO and then catching the CA Zephyr westbound the following morning. Any suggestions on hotels close to the train station? How far is downtown to the train station? Easy cab ride? I haven't been to Denver in years. I will literally just be spending the night, but looking for a nice hotel.

There is a Westin and Embassy Suites like 5-6 blocks away. For a little less cash you could try the Courtyard...I think that is closer to 10 blocks.

The Oxford hotel is right across the street. http://www.theoxfordhotel.com/index.html

We stayed at the Queen Ann Inn B&B which is about five minutes away. The Hertz office was right around the corner from the inn. We returned our car and Hertz took us to the station. The entire process took less than 15 minutes. http://www.queenannebnb.com/ At the time (August 2000) it was one of the least expensive lodgings in downtown Denver.

The famous Brown Palace is a straight shot up 17th St. from Union Station - about .9 mile. Not cheap but a historical gem and most likely a memorable experience if your budget can handle it.
