I wasn;t sure if I should ask this on the NY&A board, but I'll ask it here.

I often hear the Queens Tower call a NY&A train to find out if any high cars are in the consist. On several occassions I have seen box cars left at Belmont.

Are these cars loaded or unloaded, how long are they left there, and if they were cars heading East, and were prohibited from moving, how does the freight get unloaded?

The cars that you see at belmont are loaded with hay for the stables. Shippments of hay have been coming in by rail for about a year. If you want additional info on this ask this question on the NYA board.

Queens and Hall will call the NY&A trains asking if they have any high cars because the high cars are restricted from operating on mainline 2, due to the clearance issues going under the Montauk viaduct on Mainline 2.

That's been just about standard procedure since one was routed wrong a couple of years ago and hit the viaduct.
