According to a recent rumor, the track between Ellendale and Milton, DE, is to be abandoned in the near future, if it hasn't been already, and pulled up. Reportedly this line has seen no traffic in years and has only been used for car storage by the Delaware Coast Line. Can anyone nearby provide confirmation, details, etc.?

A notice of invitation to contractors for soliciting bids to convert the rail line in Milton Delaware to a trail appeared in the Sussex Countian on 09 03 2007.

Milton Rail to Trail Conversion
Milton, Delaware
State Project No. 25-200.08
Federal Aid Project ETA-2005(6)
08 20 2007

The bids were to be open at 1300 on 09 27 2007.

I don't know what length of the line is to be converted to a trail as part of this project.

A little google searching turns up

Federally funded under Preservation of Abandoned Railway Corridors. The project includes the construction of a rail-to-trail and the installation of pedestrian lighting for approximately .75 miles within the Town of Milton.

Too bad the DCL could'nt get any business on this line. It may be short-sighted, though, scrapping this line.
