I've noticed that the new third rail being installed at Jamaica other location appears to be Aluminum instead of steel. Is this the case?

I doubt it to be aluminum, as the wear factor is too great. Maybe galvanized iron?

it is Aluminium with a stainless steel wear surface pressed on, MN has been installing it too as it has very little power loss.

Dutch, is the Metro North third rail the same as LIRR’s just upside down? Or is it a different shape onto its own?

Wow Dutch, that's interesting. Are the pickup shoes still iron or did they get modified too?

pick up shoes are still cast iron, and way softer than wear surface of new rail.
