It took a while but I have finally come up with the date that Croton North
Station was eliminated as a station stop, started with the fall timetable of
1984 which was dated October 28, 1984.
I was working on the hunch that I would find it easier in the employee
timetable of the date rather than the public timetable of the date but the
employee timetable of the period was dated April 25, 1982 then re-dated
to January 1, 1983 when Metro-North took over. The next timetable was
not issued until April, 1985.
I checked every single General Order from the 1982 timetable and not once could I find any reference to changes at Croton North Station.
Finally dug out the public timetables from the period and that was how I
was able to establish the date of October 28, 1984.
When I qualified on the Hudson in the summer of 1983, it was told to me
that no electric trains were operating to Croton North so I assumed that
meant that there was no service to that point but at the time, some of the
Poughkeepsie jobs were still stopping there. The east yard was not in
active use although the third rail was still there and alive for a turn if
needed. I only turned there a couple of times and both times it was
because the "G" men were in Harmon.
I hope this clears this up. Still can't figure why this was not in the
employee timetable.
