Guys: I seem to remember that the LIRR looked into this possibility back in the mid 80s. The LIRR had placed a group of early M1s with #s under 9100 in storage at Holban yard. Upon inquiry,I was told that the LIRR was looking into possibly converting them to diesel service but when the LIRR got really going on the Ronkonkoma electrification,it was shelved and they were placed back in service. My guess that it would not be worth the hassle for MNCR to convert the M1s for diesel service. MACTRAXX
