Many years ago, the New York City Transit Authority upgraded all remaining wooden elevated platforms to concrete. I'm not sure what was the benefit.

Might it be done in Chicago?

Concrete platforms cannot replace wood platforms unless the supporting steel is reworked. It's a weight problem. And a budget consideration. Reworking the steel structure adds greatly to the budget.
