For those who didn't see from the old forum, the ex-LIRR #2004 "Syossett" is currently stored on the New Hope & Ivyland RR awaiting conversion to a dining car. They also have 6 P-72 coaches in service! Here she is at Pt. Jeff.

And as she appears today:

I have been looking at her for years, I asked questions about her all the time when I am up at my Aunts house in nearby Doylestown.

From the LIRR Parlor Cars website:

LIRR 2004 SYOSSET

Built by Pullman in 1913 as New York Central coach 2800 ANDRIGO. Acquired by LIRR; redesignatd LIRR 7500. Converted to club car LOCUST VALLEY in 1958. Renamed SYOSSET in 1973 after previous SYOSSET (LIRR 2001) was wrecked. Operated as private commuter club car.

Retired 197?. Stored on New Hope & Ivyland at New Hope PA. Plans are to refurbish this car for service at a future date TBD

From what I've read/seen lately, SYOSSET would need a lot of work ($$$$$) just to return to service on a shortline. Start with a COT&S, field lube of roller bearings, clean/lube/test handbrake, and the other things that the FRA requires. The she needs body work, painting, and other cosmetic attention. Don't forget air conditioning, heating, plumbing, etc.

From the pictures, old and new, it looks like Syosset has friction bearings on the trucks. Or did LIRR put rollers in and leave the oil reservoirs on?

Conversion from friction to rollers is very expensive.

I'm guessing friction, as the car sat at the Black River & Western for a number of years before going to New Hope (about 3 yrs. ago)
