Hello,

My name is William Norman, and I am a volunteer with the Charles Sousa campaign. Charles is running for leader of the Ontario Liberal Party and Premier of Ontario, and a big part of his campaign is finally committing to a high speed rail network for the GTA and the QC-Windsor corridor. Charles talked a lot about his plans for HSR in his kickoff speech:
For decades, governments of all stripes have studied the possibility of linking Windsor and Montreal with high-speed rail.

Now, it is time for action. As Premier, we will build a high-speed rail in Ontario. As a first step, I would connect Hamilton to Toronto, and Toronto to Oshawa.

That will help move people faster and easier…

…get people off the highways…

…and lay the foundation for future expansion from Windsor to Quebec-City.

Make no mistake, it’s a big ticket item. That’s why I would partner with the private sector to find innovative financing solutions that get the job done and protect the taxpayer. We have already delivered over 50 projects this way, saving taxpayers $2 billion. It works in other jurisdictions. It works in Ontario.

So let’s be bold. Let’s invest in our future.

Let’s make long term investments that will benefit future generations of Ontarians. Let’s get started.

Here are some news articles on Charles' advocacy for a HSR network:

Mississauga South MPP Charles Sousa, who threw his hat into the provincial Liberal leadership ring on the weekend, says he would push the federal government for a high-speed rail link if he becomes premier.
“Forever we’ve been talking about a high-speed rail from Windsor to Quebec City,” said Sousa, who visited The Windsor Star Wednesday on a swing through Southwestern Ontario.

“Well let’s get on it. Let’s initiate some change. That’s going to help us initiate some jobs. It’s going to help us prepare for the future because this is all about making decisions today to have greater long-term benefit.”

Sousa, 54, has served as minister of citizenship and immigration and minister of labour since his election in 2007. Prior to that he worked for more than 20 years with the Royal Bank of Canada, serving in several senior positions.

Sousa believes a regional transit system would be a benefit, as well as high-speed rail, saying it is a long process that must start somewhere to become a reality.
