Why did septa need gen sets to begin with??

Looks like 50 has been moved to the back of the shop with the retired ALCO and F unit gel train cab cars at Wayne Junction.

Hopefully SEPTA (and John Q taxpayer) gets their money refunded from the company that rebuilt 50.

What was wrong with this albatross of a locomotive that it never made it through one 92-day inspection period on the road? Was it the prime movers, running gear, electrical system, or just a lousy experiment?

As of tonight, it was on the Wayne Junction wire train sitting on the stub track next to the substation.

Has anyone ever actually seen 50 running/moving outside of it's initial test runs? it seems like it has been sitting in the Wayne shops for what feels like an eternity ever since it broke down at fern rock all those years ago....

and yes, I am fully aware that this thread is very, very, old, apologies for bumping.

Was on the wire train for approximately one week at Jenkintown in the late autumn of 2017 and never ran again. As far as I know it's still in pieces at Wayne Electric

Well that would explain this photo then, took this about 6-ish months ago out front of the Wayne shops. As you can see below, the front grill for the radiator is gone and various other parts have been altered or are simply MIA.

For reference this is what it looked like when it was mutilated into a genset.
