Attica-End of Track-3-23-17

While out getting some photos from CSX, I made a mini road trip to Attica. I started from Downtown Buffalo and drove the entire length of RT354 to Attica. Pretty neat actually considering the change of architecture from city to country. I have never driven through Attica before except for the steam train ride last year. Otherwise just flew over it. Nice little town.

Not having been there before, I just followed the GPS not concentrating on RR's. I ended up on Favor St right where the former Erie Attica branch begins. NS still has track here but it ends at Favor. Tons of rail ties, plates and rails dumped here.

On my way out, an eastbound NS train came through. The view is so much better than a camera. I grabbed the camera while at the intersection and snapped a picture.

The view was so incredible that I will head back there at some point and look for a place to eat with a view. Any suggestions?

Why not upload directly from your computer when you post?

There are good reasons to use a hosting site:

1. An attached photo increases bandwidth usage on the message board. A link does not. More bandwidth increases the cost to run the message board. (I know this due to being a moderator and/or admin on other message boards.)

2. It is quicker to post a link across multiple sites than to upload the same photo over and over again.

3. A photo hosting site has redundant servers, which is useful for long term storage of photos. Anyone who has seen the blue screen of death when a PC crashes has probably lost information on their hard drive, which can include photos.

4. Storing a large number of photos on a hard drive can slow down the PC.

I don't recall rr.net having any specific rules on the subject of attaching vs linking photos, so it's really a matter of personal preference.

I just clicked on the links and they work. For me anyways. Posting pictures is getting annoying. My previous ASUS laptop had a problem. It wasn't accepting updates and it got hammered while in London, England last year. So when I'd try to post pictures to photobucket and then get the link copied here took a long long long time. The laptop was grinding to a halt. Any other website it worked fine. I assumed it was the laptop. So I bought a new computer, a Dell All in One. Only 3 months old and only 25 pictures stored on it. It too is grinding to a halt. I'm not on DSL anymore, TW. It should only take a minute or two to move pictures around. As it is doing, it is taking as long as 15 minutes to move 1 picture. Photobucket crams so much marketing video that it "clogs" up everything. Once all the ads are in place, then everything starts moving. But if you click on something else in photobucket, it starts the whole thing all over again. That's why I was starting to use Google.

When I open the link google wants me to create an account.

After I replied above, I decided to clear my history, passwords and cookies which included email. So when I got home tonight and before I login anywhere but here, I clicked on my links above and I couldn't get in either. My picture was basically like BigHams except without the work train.

Neither of those links worked. Google is too powerful, approaching M$.
It complained about my browser which doesn't cut it with me.

Off topic but all of the browsers seem to advertise against each other these days.

I use Firefox and Windows 10 opens an alert telling me that Windows Edge is safer, uses less battery, surfs faster, etc.

Yahoo wants me to go to the Full Firefox Experience-- excuse me, I'm already using Firefox and I don't need your add-in...

Google wants me to do everything in Chrome and reminds me any chance it gets.

Anyway... I did see one of the photos in the thread.

Thanks for your reply. It allows me to understand that I'm not the only one getting annoyed and why my hair is thinning other than getting old.

I relented and went back to photobucket. It has taken me just short of 30 minutes to get it uploaded to photobucket, copy the link to here, find out its to big, resized it in photobucket and re-copied here.



Add another 15 minutes to get this resized and copied here. Crazy.

Whatever you do, stay away from the Stagehouse (across from the Hotel) - it's right on top of the tracks but you're likely to catch something if you step foot in there.

https://goo.gl/maps/CCkj6yqndU82" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you're looking for other places to see the old Erie main in general (without food), follow Main St east to the High School, the road splits here into East Main and Stevens (Rt 238) with crossings on both as the tracks curve to the north to head up the Attica Hill. Usually some impressive throttling up here if it's a loaded train. If you're going to take pictures here I'd suggest sticking to East Main as you're likely to attract some unwanted attention at the 238 crossing, between the high school on one side and the Prison Farm on the other side.

Beyond that you can hit Dale Rd north of Warsaw and follow the tracks along the hillside for quite a ways with a number of crossings.

Further west you can catch a crossing on Griswold Rd or follow right along the tracks on Erie St and Herkimer Rd in Darien.

I used to live on Market (the street to your right in the overpass pic) with a decent view out my bedroom window across the street of the tracks. After a few years bouncing to other towns I'm back in the area now but down Exchange almost out of the village (in fact, the old A&A ROW is about 20 feet from my back porch but not property I have access to).
