Annual Rail to the Fair 2008 Canceled

Delaware's annual Rail to the Fair train has been canceled for 2008. Does anyone have any further information on why this is so?

On June 3, 2008 DelDOT sent out this notice:

RAIL To The FAIR Advisory – The RAIL to the FAIR has been cancelled for this year due to increased operating costs and budget considerations. Every effort will be made to bring the RAIL to the FAIR back, whenever funding will allow. If you have already purchased your tickets for this event, you will receive a full refund. Again, DART regrets this cancellation and feels particular empathy for our many repeat passengers who look forward to this special downstate train ride each year.

We have no excess money in Delaware state government. Next years budget is being trimmed by millions of dollars; the latest cuts were to senior citizen centers. A bit hard for DelDOT to justify subsidizing a one shot train ride.
