And then the eastbound Boston leg of 448 died in Worcester on 2/24. Got towed to Boston by MBTA / Keolis train #538. Whole story on my blog:

For those curious 2168 (26) lost power this evening on the Hell Gate Bridge. Some sort of problem with one of the power cars. We had frequent updates from OBS, and got moving again after about ~50 minutes.

Does anybody know why:

A. Westbound Wolverine #351 (25th) lost 3' 30" KAL to CHI?

B. Eastbound Wolverine #354 (25th) shows no times east of DET to PNT @ "Service disruption"? and

C. Eastbound Capitol Limited #30 (26th) lost 4'00" TOL to Sandusky and shows time at Alliance, then "Service Disruption"?

Can comment on the CAP delay. #30's inbound engineer placed the 480 mode switch in standby position in the belief that this would save fuel while the train was in Toledo for its servicing stop. Reportedly after the outbound engineer changed the 480 mode switch back to normal the main generator on ENG 195 was fried. Although #48 came into Toledo while #30 was still there, its power was back to back and for whatever reason a decision was made to not remove the power and wye the trailing unit to power #30. NS provided ENG 9732 to power #30.

Depending on the layover it is a requirement to place the HEP into Standby mode per Road Forman notice and according to "Amtrak" it does save fuel.

? - Is there a wye at TOL Stn?

? - Did #30 have only 1 unit? If 2 units, might have been better to go to CLE or PGH to pick up another.

A: It had engine problems.

B: Pedestrian hit, killed by Amtrak train in downtown Royal Oak

A brief "fair use" quote:
ROYAL OAK, MI – A 26-year-old pedestrian died Saturday after he walked in front of an Amtrak train in downtown Royal Oak, police reported.

The man, a Florida resident, disregarded a lowered crossing arm at S. Main and Sixth streets and attempted to cross the tracks, according to a statement from the Royal Oak Police Department.

I don't know if there is a wye at TOL, but 30 only had one unit this date.
