Does anyone know when/why NJT replaced the air conditioner units on their ALP-44 fleet? As far as I can tell it was sometime between 1996-2004. They came from the factory will smaller white units that were taller (Septa's 2308 and Amtrak's AEM-7s had similar units) and were eventually all replaced with longer and lower profile units that sat more flat on the roof. These new units also took up a much larger hole in the roof. Does anyone from mechanical or "in the know" happen to know the why/when this change happened?
