Can anyone recommend or not an 11 to 2 connection in LAX.

Arrival into LAX scheduled at 9:00 pm on 11

Departs LAX at 10:30 pm.

Is it worth the risk?

Is it a guaranteed connection?

It's a guaranteed connection. Unless 11 is "significantly late," they'll hold 2 (I mean, 2's going to be hours late anyway, what's another hour or so for connections?).

I tried it in May, and we were only 10 minutes late on 11. You should be fine.

If you cannot connect with Train #2, Amtrak will put you on a bus and hook up with the Sunset in Pensacola, Florida. :-)
(Just kidding, of course :P) (?)

If you are not collecting mileage and don't mind alternate transportation,
you will probably do just fine.
If the above is not true, and you do mind buses, planes and taxis or you
absolutely want to ride the entire line, attempt this connection at your own
risk.
If you are coming from the Bay Area, I would suggest one of the San
Joaquins of which there are four a day. According to the present time-
table, you could leave Oakland at 10:05AM, make the bus transfer at
Bakersfield and be in Los Angeles at 6:45PM. This would give you ample
time for your train connection east and I would think you would probably
have a better chance to be on time.
If you are coming from a point further up on the Coast Starlight route,
good luck.

Over the past 7-8 years that I have watched it semi-regularly, I would say you make the 11-2 rail connection 40-50% of the time. 40% is being pulled off and put on a bus at SLO or Santa Barbara for Pomona or Palm Springs. Remainder is missed connections. Best suggestion - take San Joaquin's earlier in day or come down #11 a day early and stay in LA or Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo (Surfliners provide connections next day from SLO or SBA. By the way - #1-#14 connection is much worse - basically it's a 'fictional' connection.

Personally I wouldn't do it but 11 has been better as of late.
