I heard some rumblings a few weeks ago that the MBTA and it's contractors purchased the wrong size rail because they got a good deal on it. Anybody have any insider info to back this up?

Not me, I don't think I heard about them getting the wrong rail for Greenbush.

I hope that's not true, since that could delay the project.

I heard they got a sweet deal on some nickel-plated HO scale rail. It's all part of the plan to quadruple-track the entire line.

The rail purchased was the correct size (136#RE), however there was a changeorder a while ago that changed that size. It was originally supposed to be 132#. As far as getting a good deal, steel prices have been fairly high recently and we had to purchase the rail when the prices were reasonable.

Where did you hear this information anyway from the MBTA?
