Thank you for the new information.

I did find one big pier, just over on the west bank of the river. Not sure if it is the one in Russ's photo, or even the bottom half of it. https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3591846 ... a=!3m1!1e3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The pier in Russes photograph is one of the two that anchored the end of the viaduct. They filled in behind and around most of the pier so only the top of the pier is now visible. Like an iceberg, the bulk of the mass is out of site.

Burt relates a humorous story about the pier that is in the middle of the river. The engineers drew it with the ice breaking point facing north thinking that, like most every other river in the US, the Genesee flowed north to south. A local farmer had been hired to pour the pier and reported back to the main office that he believed the pier was positioned backwards. The main office wrote back asking if he was an engineer and if not, just follow the damn directions. And so he did. Therefore, the pier in the middle of Genesee River is facing the wrong way.

There is still an abutment on the west side of the spot where the Google maps shot was taken, and up that hill a ways.

Here is a photo showing that abutment, although greatly obscured by the trees.
