Can anyone identify the trackside structure shown? I believe this photo was taken along a three track mainline (possibly east of New Haven) in the mid Fifties when the structure was fairly new. I don’t think it was a tell-tale, since many of those were most likely gone by then. That’s the nose of Fairbanks Morse C-Liner on the left.

It was a bridge telltale, we still had them in the 50's.

Thanks kwf and Noel. Was this to protect MOW work crews? I thought the services of a traditional roof riding brakeman were no longer required. It looks a thought this device used netting as opposed to the more recognizable tales.
