I guess the original PCC's dont quite cut the mustard anymore....too bad the II's have yet to be used in revenue service, or that SEPTA can't be more like MetroNorth and organize their own fantrips. For what's charged, they'd actually make a little something on it....

The original PCC's were simply worn out. Remember, the newest ( in the series from which the PCC II's were taken) are now almost 60 years old. It is a tribute to the concept and construction of the PCC that they lasted as long as they did.
