Saturday, April 20, 2024, Amtrak trains from Penn station to Albany were delayed for about two hours, around 6 pm for bridge inspection of the Spuyten Duyvil bridge. Does anyone know why the bridge was inspected?

Normally when this happens it involves something large that floats. Got the info as we were walking in after finishing up AMT49. Trains were on the move by about 7:45pm. Bet they slapped a 15mph on the bridge... again.

Guess not even a mini container ship. However, maybe one of the circle line boats?

That would have made the news (and social media) for sure, with all those tourists on board. Maybe failure to seat properly when closing after an opening? That seems to be a problem with old bridges.

It was a 15ft V hull fishing boat that caused the first issue. There was another issue this past Friday when the bridge decided to stay open and had to be manually closed through the use of tugs or some other type craft. The two have nothing to do with each other. The bridge was closed, cleared for rail traffic and should be repaired by Monday 4/29
