Recent happenings along the Bordentown Secondary.

A new 1 million square foot Amazon warehouse is being built on the former U.S. Pipe property in Burlington. Check out the view from the New Pearl St. overpass in 2011 compared to 2018 from the same spot-

The 45 tonner was moved to Rimtec (also in Burlington) by truck last year-

Roebling Museum-

I've always thought this was the original Roebling Station and was moved to this spot but I could be wrong. Definitely looks like railroad architecture-

This slipped through because it's not a BNSF GEVO or UP AC44 but NS 8100, the "Nickel Plate Road" heritage unit, led 38G today.

Two cars of interest in the consist were a former CN open hopper and a Golden West Service plug door box car with Denver & Rio Grande Western reporting marks-

John, I grew up on nearby Amboy Avenue. My Dad and Grandad and most of my friends there had Dad's and family who worked in the mill. It was here that I grew to love the trains that went through during the Penn Central years, a through freight that went south from Morrisville(?) to Pavonia and then an early am through freight that originated likely at Pavonia and passed Roebling in the very early morning hours. Then there was a daily freight that switched CF&I (Roebling Steel Mill) and also serviced Doane's Shipyard (scrap steel from ship breaking operations there on the Delaware, Church Brick just north of Doane's and Stepan Chemical. That daily local would leave cars to be picked up at Roebling on the #2 track by the southbound through freight. A very busy little railroad just in this small area, not taking into account what was going on at Griffin Pipe in Florence and US Pipe in Burlington.

That station you have pictured was not the old PRR/PC station at the corner of Railroad and Knickerbocker (Hornberger) Avenues. I'd refer you to google "Roebling Revisited Train Station" and look for Roebling Revisited-page 45 for the train station that stood for a long time off of Knickerbocker. I recall when it was demolished and it was in the time when the mill closed it's doors, tossing my Dad and most everyone in town out of work. Soon after when Conrail took over, the #2 track and the adjacent tracks going into the abandoned mill property were taken up, leaving what we see today on the NJT Light Rail. I'd think a Roebling Museum staff person would be able to better identify the purpose of that building you shot for here. I'm curious, myself!

Good to know the US Pipe 45 tonner was saved. When that warehouse went up and the tracks removed, I feared the worst; the same kind of fate the Roebling engine at the Pemberton Station met just a few years ago.

Keep up the fine work here. I thoroughly enjoy the photos and video that you and Mr Vogel post up here. It sure is a labor of love for you guys, getting out in all kinds of weather to photographically document the history of this line. With respect to the other threads, this one is the best and it's due to the contributions you two gentlement make here! :)

I second Mike's sentiment John. Although I rarely get down to your usual area of operations, I do follow the thread. My major interest in South Jersey is anything through Winslow Jct. (Full disclosure: My son lives in Collings Lakes adjacent to the OOS CR Southern Secondary below the asphalt plant.) Thanks again for Bob's, Ben's and your work for this thread.

Harry, Thank You much for the kind words, they are appreciated!

I too enjoy seeing all of the contributions from the local railscene! Johnnyloco's videos and his pictures from his seemingly never ending "criss-crossing" of Southern New Jersey are definitely one of the highlights of this thread!
