Apparently 4 Silverliner Vs are back in service

The Philadelphia area's main transit agency began returning some of its sidelined rail cars to service Thursday following repairs and projects its full fleet will be back in service by mid-November.

Four repaired Silverliner V cars departed from the Fox Chase neighborhood station Thursday morning to pick up passengers, agency officials said.

SEPTA has followed "a very aggressive return-to-service schedule" and expects a return to a regular weekday schedule in early October, General Manager Jeff Knueppel said. Each car takes about 12 days to repair, and transit officials expect the new beams to last at least 30 years.

SEPTA Starting to get Regional Rail Cars Back on Track
Peg Quann, Bucks County Courier Times wrote: SEPTA expects to have its Regional Rail trains back on a normal schedule by Oct. 10, thanks to the hard work of a Lower Bucks company.
[...]
Working more than 15 hours a day and on weekends, employees at PennFab have fabricated 340 of the 480 beams needed to fix the passenger cars pulled from service. Each beam weighs 380 pounds.
[...]
The first five fixed cars were returned to service Thursday on the Fox Chase line. But SEPTA officials admit that the real crunch time starts next week, as colleges reopen and ridership picks up with the beginning of the back-to-school season.
[...]
[Jeff Knueppel] estimated that the trains would be able to return to their regular schedules by the first or second week in October, but said the timeline might shorten as workers have gotten more experienced with making the beams, finishing them and putting the trains back together.
Lots of good news all around!

The NBC article notes that the beams are expected to last "at least 30 years". I don't want to be around in 2050 when the Silverliner 6's have an issue and the 5's aren't capable of bailing them out like the 4's have this time.

Maybe the 4's will still be chugging along at that point.

Lets see... 15 MARC cars... 12 days each... So in the worst case, MARC should get the train sets back by this time next year. I wonder which ones will have the Authentic Old Bay Seasoned Chesapeake Bay Crabs smell replaced by Authentic Philly Cheese Steak smell... :)

And that same push-pull set, I got on video at Philmont on Tuesday AM rush on 6391.

However, it is now a complete SEPTA set. Sometime overnight, the two MARC coaches were cut out of the consist and replaced with two SEPTA coaches. I saw the set northbound at Temple U this morning... all the cars and locomotive are the same, except for the 4th and 5th cars from the cab car, where the MARC cars had been.

The delays are caused by higher passenger volume and because since Labor Day is over people are coming to school or returning to work after the break

On Tuesday morning, the day after Labor Day, SEPTA advised regional rail riders that they could face delays of up to 30 minutes due to "heavy passenger load." By early afternoon, the agency said service had returned to normal.
