Re: "Pocket Track" at Summit

I believe that all of this work -- with the exception of perhaps removing the old interlocking -- will happen much farther west between the High Street bridge and Passaic Avenue. There's an NJT maintenance area off Passaic Ave that could provide some of the land for a pocket track if that's still be...

2. Portal replacement is discussed but no actual work starts Technically work has already started. Those huge dirt mounds aren't sitting by Secaucus for aesthetics. Sully; Are you sure those dirt piles are connected to the Portal Bridge project? Everything I've been able to find about them links th...

I am also wondering how many tracks the potential span would bear. However, the article mentions that the design work is done. Does anyone know what was designed in terms of number of tracks? I have no idea why Clift would take the view, effectively, that Portal is the enemy of Gateway. If he is ta...

It's 2 from the saw tooth bridge to the portal bridge i believe.

Actually there are a number of problems between Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station besides the Portal Bridge and the Hudson River Tunnels.

There are only two tracks between Portal and Newark and the saw-tooth bridge is also on it's last legs.

But you have to start somewhere.

And leaving early won't really get you home early. There are a number of trains back to Secaucus Station before the end of the game, but it appears from the schedule that there is only one train that operates through Penn Station into Metro North territory.

I'm confused. I don't think Gateway or ARC for that matter ever contemplated 2 tunnels. It was one tunnel with 2 tracks. So how do you build less than that? I suppose you could only build enough of the interior to support the one track but either way you are boring the tunnel.

NJT has finally updated it's Capital Projects page and has added the Cutoff. Though there's not much info, it at least indicates a plan to seek construction bids sometime this winter. http://www.njtransit.com/tm/tm_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=CapProjectDetailsTo&CapitalProjectId=82" onclick=&...

The pile of dirt just west of Secaucus is for a potential development there. Not sure it will ever happen, but someone has proposed putting a convention center there and the soil is for sealing the dump that's beneath the area. The curvature in the concepts for Gateway are relics of the ARC plan wh...

As a current college student in the Lehigh Valley, I hate that the Valley suffers from a deficiency of public transportation. I'm from Philadelphia, so I would love it if SEPTA would reactivate the Bethlehem Branch. At the same cost, I have interests and connections in New York. I wish that there w...

I was on a NE regional train that got held up by that just outside Newark. Then our train lost power. Just as the conductor was announcing that we were stuck and they were calling a rescue engine we got going again. Phew.
