I recall once seeing an MBTA Lowell/Haverhill Line map and schedule (trains to Haverhill went via the Lowell Line when this was published and the current Haverhill line ended at Reading) from the late 1970s or early 1980s that had a station in the area of Cross St in Winchester and another one at Sa...

I don't think it's too uncommon. A few years ago I was on an Amtrak train going to New York when the locomotive was struck (I saw it happen from the rear most car), the train stopped few minutes later and passengers were told that they had to "re-cycle" the locomotive. After a little while...

You've got it the wrong way around. It's Back Bay to South Station that is free. There's a fare from South Station (they begin collecting tickets upon departure from South Station).

I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that 11 and 12 were going to be regular platforms, but that the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital wasn't willing to sell the MBCR their parking lot, so it could be torn down for the tracks. I believe that the plan is for future expansion into part of the Sp...

It is BS to think trains should be operated at such a huge loss and not allow for dissent from those with a differing opinion. You have every right to your opinion, however some people will counter or disagree with it, as is their right; that is not "not allow[ing] for dissent from those with ...

According to this 1922 Bromley map , the station in question in the photo is most likely of Huntington Av Station. The buildings and street in the background in the photo seem to correspond with the buildings and streets on the map (the buildings on the left side of the photos being the garages in t...

Why did B&A have a separate station from Back Bay station? Actually, I did a little research and found that the B&A's Trinity Place was for outbound trains, it also had an inbound station at Huntington Av, maybe that's what the photo of the station with the dormer is. I'm going to do some b...

Hmmm... All three links worked for me showing three different photos of two different stations of similar design (I'm using a different computer than the one I posted it from). The station in the first and third photos has a large trackside dormer and the gable end windows are different than Trinity...

The second photo is of Trinity Place, the first and third are of another station. What station is in the first and third photo?

What station is this? (Trinity Place)

I was going through some pictures on Flickr of Boston in the 1950s and 60s and came across a photo of this station . It is similar in design to Trinity Place that I had to look for another picture before I was convinced that it wasn't, but it looks like something the B&A would have built. Here i...

Here is a link to the photos along the Corridor from RI to Boston.

And arguably off topic: here are some pics of the old Back Bay Station, just before it was torn down.

The first photo is near Ruggles St, where the BPD headquarters are now. The Whittier St Apartments are at the top of the page. The second one is of Roxbury Crossing. The buildings at the top of the photo are at the intersection of Elmwood, Gardner and Roxbury Streets, and are still standing. Roxbury...

I've seen photos of (and remember seeing trains on the Lowell Line in the eighties and early nineties with) the engines on both the inbound and outbound sides of the trains in pull mode. I'm assuming that it was before the advent or widespread use of cab cars and push/pull modes. Did they actually t...

is Jay Cashman being billed for fixing the bridge? it was their barge that started all this hullaballoo..or does another BigDig company get a free pass by the Commonwealth? The MBTA will most likley file a claim for damages against Cashman which will most likley be covered by their marine insurance...
